Unit 1: Small Moments

Independent

Games & Activities:

  • Write a story about an activity you did.  Be sure it happened in a small amount of time.  Add dialogue, action and thinking.  
  • Rainbow write your sight words.  Pick 5 words.  Write each one in 5 different colors to make a rainbow.
  • Start an ideas notebook. Carry it with you when you go places.  As you get ideas for stories, jot or draw your story idea.
  • Use your jotting notebook to write one of your small moment stories.

Projects:

  • Write a story and make a video of yourself reading the story.  Show it to others in your family.  Ask them for comments and suggestions.

 

Family

Games & Activities:

  • Tell stories to one another about something that happened during the day.  Be sure to include action, talking, and thinking.
  • Interview a family member.  Ask them to tell you a story about their childhood.
  • Tell a story together.  Take turns tell different parts of the story.
  • After a family outing, pick one small part of the event.  Tell the story of that event.

Projects:

Use your jotting notebook to write one of your small moment stories.  After you have written several small moment stories, put them together to make a chapter book of small moments from your life.
