- Letter Sound Popsicle sticks. (Prepare this game with a parent. Can be played independently) . Write the letters of the alphabet on popsicle sticks. Each stick should have only one letter written on it. Place the popsicle sticks in a bag. Shake them up. Reach in and grab one popsicle stick. Say the sound the letter makes. Repeat until there are no popsicle sticks left. This game can also be used to practice blends (ch, th, sh) or word families (an, at, ight, ack)
Projects:
Create your own pattern book about your favorite nature item. (Ex: Some leaves are green. Some leaves are yellow. Some leaves are red.)

- Label Your Room: Cut strips of paper. Walk around your room and label what you see. Use all of your word study knowledge and stretch out the sounds to help you identify the letters in the word.
- I Spy: Practice your observation skills. Find a “mystery” object in a room. Tell a family member or friend 3 clues to help them guess the object. Remember to use your senses and include details such as size, color, shape, and texture in your clues.
Projects:
Write your own book: Visit your neighborhood park. Collect a few items (leaves, twigs, acorns, flowers, etc) and spend some time studying and observing them. You can also bring a camera and take pictures of animals you see (squirrels, birds, insects, etc). Write and illustrate your own book about what you observed at the park.
