Story Telling:

1.Take turns telling stories with your family about exciting things that happened during your day. You can even record it on a phone/tablet!

2.Good stories have problems! Tell stories about a problem you had and how you solved it. You can even record it on a phone/tablet!

4.After someone tells you a story, try asking them some ‘how’ or ‘why’ questions to find out more! (Now have them ask YOU questions about your story).

5.Act out one of the stories! You can even record it on a phone/tablet!

6.Tell a made up story to someone in your family. Don’t forget to include characters and maybe even a problem that gets solved. You can even record it on a phone/tablet!

7.Be expressive when you tell a story. How do the characters talk? What hand/face gestures do they make?

8.Tell a ‘string-a-long story’ Begin with a story starter such as “once upon a time…”. Then take turns making up a fiction story part by part. You can even record it on a phone/tablet!

9.Use a wordless picture book (or cover the text) to make up how you think the story would go. Make sure to include what the characters say and do. You can even record it on a phone/tablet!

Independent

Story Writing:

1.Think of the parts of your day.  Pick an interesting part and write what happened first, next and last.

2.Keep a notebook with you.  Bring it places you go.  Jot story ideas you come across throughout your day.  Now, write some of those stories!

3.Think about one of the true stories you told your family.  Now write it down.

4.Think about one of the fiction stories you told your family.  Now write it down.

5.Good stories have problems!  Write stories about a problem you had and how you solved it.

6.Think about a fiction character you would like to write about.  Draw a picture of what they look like, different places they might go, friends they might have, etc.

7.Make the characters in your story talk.  Add speech bubbles!

8.Reread your story.  Make sure it makes sense and says exactly what you want it to say.  (Make sure you didn’t leave out any words!)

9.Go through a story you wrote and make sure all the sight words you wrote are spelled correctly.
