Watch videos from National Geographic Kids As you watch the videos, try taking notes in different ways as you learn about your topic. Then, write an all about book on one of your favorite topics!

Games & Activities:

  • Re-read notes you have taken to prepare to write an all-about chapter book.
  • Go on a nonfiction book scavenger hunt. Try to find:
    • Table of contents
    • Headings
    • Subheadings
    • Photographs
    • Diagrams
    • Captions
    • Index and/or Glossary
    • Any other text features you can find!

Family

Games & Activities:

  • Choose a topic you want to study as a family. As you read, talk about different ways you can take notes with your family.
  • Go to the library and read some all about books on your favorite topic.

Projects:

  • Create a newspaper or magazine based on your research from your favorite all about book.
  • Write an all about book on the topic of your choice! Use what you know and conduct some of your own research.  To do this:
    • Research all about one topic. Use websites, books, and any other way you can gather information.
    • Plan your chapters and sections (what are your headings going to be?)
    • Draft!
    • Revise using your tracker
    • Edit your writing
    • Publish!
